How Casinos Fight Computer Bots at Intertops poker casino

Post by zadak »

Facebook’s Pluribus might be the first AI to beat pro poker players at their own game, but it is not the first bot to ever challenge players who play poker online.

Poker bots have been around for years, threatening the online poker market and acting as a constant nuisance that deters recreational players from using online gambling venues.

Since players visit online poker rooms with the expectation of having a fair chance at winning, the knowledge that a computerized bot can stop you from achieving your goal is enough to stop hundreds of players from playing online.

But the good news is that most bots aren’t as smart as Pluribus, and both the casinos and the players can try to detect bots with little effort.

Merely a couple of months ago it was reported that bots infiltrated some of the most popular poker rooms in various countries. Since gambling venues are aware of the fact bots can scare people away, they made a point of tracking down as many bots as possible.

Before you place your money on the line, find out what the casinos do - of course, you're safe here at Intertops Poker - and what you can do to track bots down. That way, you will be able to gamble without worrying too much!

One of the simplest and most useful tool gambling venues use to detect bots is called CAPTCHA - aka Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.

At random intervals, gambling venues ask users to type one word or another, which is something regular bots are still not capable of doing.

But even if bots can outsmart basic security measures, casinos are always on the lookout for suspicious behaviour that is associated with bots. They don’t hesitate in closing down accounts and seizing all of their wins when they suspect a bot is involved.

Players Detecting Bots While Playing
Poker bots often possess a few common traits that you can easily detect while you’re at the casino. Here are a few things you should pay attention to as you play poker online:

Bots don’t respond to private chat messages, so if you suspect one of the players at the table is actually a bot – send him a message and see what happens. However, human players might ignore your message as well, so take this bit of information with a grain of salt.
Pay attention to the player’s reaction time. You will notice that human players sometimes take their time when making tough decisions, and sometimes they will react quickly and without hesitations. Bots, however, usually react at identical intervals no matter how hard of a decision they are facing.
Bots tend to repeat the same string of actions, playing different hands the same way. While human players might also repeat the same actions from time to time, you can detect an automated activity pattern if you pay close attention.
In Conclusion
Common computer bots might not be as advanced as Facebook’s artificial intelligence, but they still pose a threat to all poker players out there. If you stay alert, you might be able to detect suspicious behaviour and catch those bots in action yourself.

Not true. I have a custom f$delay function that has randomness programmed into it.

So you’re saying that warbot has a built in function f$delay that has randomness and what does it do could explain further

You can change the delay of when the bot act depending on your defined scenarios. For example, if you want the bot to fold certain hands with a delayed reaction, or to call, raise, etc, you can do that. If you want the bot to act completely random with timing, you can do that...it's really up to you.

Here's a simple one:

##f$delay##
betround > 1 AND Bets > 0 AND ( HaveNuts OR HaveQuads OR HaveFullHouse ) ? (500 + (Random * 10)) : 250

This says, if the round is a flop, turn or river...
and bot is facing a bet...
and bot has the nuts, or quads, or a full house...
then make the delay 500 - 1500ms...
for any other hand, make the delay 250

for obvious reasons this can be exploitable. So, you maybe want to include hands like flushdraw, straightdraw, or havenothing into the hand types.

A full house, also known as a full boat or a boat (and originally called a full hand), is a hand that contains three cards of one rank and two cards of another rank, such as 3♣ 3♠ 3♦ 6♣ 6♥ (a "full house, threes over sixes" or "threes full of sixes" or "threes full"). It ranks below four of a kind and above a flush

quads, is a hand that contains four cards of one rank and one card of another rank (the kicker), such as 9♣ 9♠ 9. ♦ 9♥ J♥ ("four of a kind, nines"). It ranks below a straight flush and above a full house.
